Stripping is cheap.... free in fact. Which is good because it gives me time to save some dough for all the costly things ahead.

Last week I was sick with a cold so I really didn't get anything done at all. I took out the headlights and took some sandpaper to a few spots to see how deep the rust is in the few places that do have rust. Not bad at all actually.

New Innovations in Fiberglass dash arrives. Contoured extension isn't as big as I thought it'd be, but I think it'll actually turn out perfectly. 6 gauges in 2 rows of 3 will fit and still have room for switches or lights or whatever I want.

New mufflers arrive. I can hardly wait to hear them. I bet these are gonna be loud! Woo hoo! I love 'em.

Pulled hood hinge springs, charcoal canister, glove box, front and rear seatbelts, rear quarter panel upholstery, battery ground cable, crossbar for backseat front edge support, 2 rear floor panels with heater vents, carpet and some insulation from rear wheel well area, rear seat latches and seat bumpers.

Removed door handles and hardware and striker plates. Took off 2 air box bolts. Air box and one bolt already gone.

February 20, 2001

Took out door windows an all related hardware. Pulled back window and rear quarter windows. Removed the window tint from the windshield glass. Windshield not yet removed. Removed mirrors, wipers, backseat, passenger seat, front hood.

New tires bought and mounted for rear wheels. Michelin MXV4 Energy Plus 195/60 R15. They look very cool, but anything is an improvement... Now have all new tires all around.

I did a few things in advance, but Howard and Jim did most of the work to pull the old motor from my '72 bug. With that out of the way, I'll be able to get more things done.

It'll save me some money because I can use some parts from the old motor.

Now comes a lot of cleaning, and then painting or powdercoating. I haven't decided which one yet.

First real disassembly. I removed the decklid in preparation for engine removal. Engine removed.
